Sarah and Ciara, one of Ireland’s first same sex couples to say ‘I Do’ over Christmas

Sarah and Ciara have been together for 4 years and on the 8th of January, 2014, Sarah took the next step and asked Ciara to marry her.  Lucky for Sarah, Ciara said Yes. The Wedding was booked almost straight away and the venue chosen was the fabulous Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Dublin.sarah&ciarafaces

A Christmas wedding was something they had always wanted as they met each other over Christmas so it made perfect sense. On the 8th of December 2015, Sarah, Ciara their parents and their bridal party made their way to the registry office to sign their marriage papers. Signing the marriage papers was a very special day for them both. Not only were they getting married it was just unbelievable that the Marriage Equality Bill had been passed in the same year. 2015 will always be an incredible year for them.   4 days later on December 12th in the hotel, Sarah and Ciara had their proper wedding ceremony in front of 180 family and friends. It was a magical day and a new experience for the majority of their guests who attended their first Gay Wedding.

The Dresses

The girls shopped separately for the dresses with their mothers and maid of honours! It was a nice experience for both of them. Ciara got her dress in Baldoyle Industrial Estate but Sarah unfortunately didn’t have a great experience with the shop she went to and if she was to change anything about the plans or build up she would have chose a different bridal shop. They both had a best man, bridesmaid and maid of honour who all looked and were unbelievable!!!sarah&ciaraalone

The Hen Party

They organised their hen weekend in Brighton with 30 of their close friends… great weekend, full of good clean fun!!!

The Ceremony

The ceremony in the hotel was done by their good friend Grace Fitzgerald. She prepared a perfect, unique sand ceremony for them both and everyone enjoyed how intimate and personal it was.  The highlight of their day was getting to share the special day with all their family and friends. Sarah had chosen to take Ciara’s surname so they are now the new Mrs and Mrs McCarthy!

Its been a busy year for the girls, they bought their first home together and planning a wedding and they couldn’t be happier.  Congratulations to the new Mrs and Mrs McCarthy, we wish you both a fantastic future together.
